Modern Love is a 90-minute piece about four students at university. Spanning one term at Oxford, the play explores the dynamic between two best friends, Ella and Olivia, whose relationship negotiates the lines between friendship, sexual intimacy and obsessive desire. By contrast, best mates Harry and Jonah enjoy a relaxed and secure friendship whose boundaries are severely tested when they both fall for Ella. What follows is a romantic game of musical chairs that explores mental illness, sexual consent and love in all its forms. Based on interviews and stories, this piece focuses primarily on repressed female sexuality.

We are designing a hybrid production that seamlessly blends elements of cinema with theatre. While the production will still be a live performance, film will intervene within the theatrical space to expand upon plot points and question how memory and subjective experience operate within the story.

On the 1st and 2nd October, we performed an extract of the piece at

The Pleasance Theatre as part of their Litmus Fest.
